to the well-off Barliman Butterbur, and a gold piece was a truly extravagant reward for good news. Nár was given "a few coins of little worth" by Azog as an insult. Bilbo's gold and silver from Erebor were probably minted. In all probability there were many different kinds of currency, and these currencies were no doubt mutually exchangeable, as in medieval Europe. |
